Rhamnus crocea
A densely-branched shrub.
Twigs end in unspecialized thorns. Despite the common name, these are not spines.



Rhamnus crocea
Leaves are elliptic, coriaceous, entire to denticulate.
Note yellow flowers with no petals (perianth is a calyx), stamens alternisepalous in position.



Rhamnus crocea
Fruits are red berries, hence for the common name.
