Eytmology: Ancient L. name for pine + after Aylmer Bourke "Lambert" (1761-1842), English botanist and conifer expert

In the white pine group. Bark is relatively smooth. Branches tend to be in pseduo-whorls. There are 5, short leaves (needles) per fascicle.
Sugar pines are the tallest of any pine species. The female cone is the longest of any Pinus species.
