Etymology: Gr. erion, "wool," and phyllon, "leaf" + with crowded flowers

Note: Two varieties in California. Eriophyllum confertiflorum var. confertiflorum is in San Diego County

Inflorescence is a corymb of heads. Leaves are pinnately divided.
Stem surface and abaxial leaf surface are white-tomentose-lanate.
