NOTE: Plagiobothrys parishii I.M.Johnston has been mistakenly identified as a synonym of Plagiobothrys collinus var. californicus (A.Gray) L.C.Higgins
The type of Plagiobothrys parishii I.M.Johnston was originally named Eritrichium cooperi A.Gray, later Allocarya cooperi (A.Gray) Greene [see above]
However, in 1885, Gray described a different species, which he named Plagiobothrys cooperi [references above],
this a synonym of what is now called
Plagiobothrys collinus var. californicus.
Because the name "cooperi" was already taken for the genus Plagiobothrys, I.M. Johnston, when transferring Allocarya cooperi to Plagiobothrys, was required to use
a new/replacement name (nomen novum), choosing "parishii" after the Parish brothers, who were among the first to collect this species.
