Etymology/Etimología:
 after Celosia (Amaranthaceae), in reference to the superficially similar inflorescences with Celosia cristata [Celosia argentea]

NOTE: Taxonomically complex; needs further work.  Higgins (1971) stated, in reference to his study:
"The species C. bradburiana, sheldonii, macounii, and celosioides as recognized by Payson [1927] in his monograph have here been combined."
If these taxa are combined, it is clear that the name Oreocarya glomerata has priority in that genus, is in fact the type species.
