In all these results, Cryptantha muricata is part of a well-supported "Maritimae" clade with C. clokeyi, C. martirensis, C. maritima, the South American C. subamplexicaulis, and (in Simpson et al. 2017) Johnstonella echniosepala=Cryptantha echinosepala. Three of these are in Johnston's series Muricatae (K-Mur); C. maritima is in his Maritimae (K-Mar); C. subamplexicaulis is in his Barbigerae (K-Bar).
