Robert F. Hoover 11099, 27 May 1968 (RSA0184603=RSA216793)
United States, California, Colusa County, Bear Creek canyon N. of Highway 20 (near Wilbur Springs)
Habitat: On barren crumbled shale (not serpentine).
Description: Nutlet 1, minutely granulate and tuberculate. Small calyx, solitary roughened nutlet, and geographic position agree with C. excavata,
but nutlet is erect. However, Johnston says “nutlet usually horizontal,” so this may be the exception [on supplementary label].

Note hollowed out ("excavated") attachment scar, characteristic of this species.
