Etymology/Etimología:
"deceptive," in some sense not what it appears to be, perhaps in reference to this statement in the protologue, Jones 1910:
      "This seems to be intermediate between dumetorum [Cryptantha dumetorum] and angustifolia [Johnstonella angustifolia],
      and closely approaches intermedia [Cryptantha intermedia]."

Phylogenetic Relationships:

In all these results, Cryptantha decipiens is sister to C. aff. wigginsii [=C. catalinensis], these part of a well-supported clade with C. affinis, C. clevelandii, and C. corollata,
and these all sister to C. microstachys.
