In all these results, Cryptantha crinita is part of a well-supported clade, is sister to C. mariposae, these two sister to C. ambigua and C. torreyana and these four sister to C. watsonii.

Exemplars:
Nutlet generally 1, lance-ovate, acuminate (beaked), densely papillate, with a few obscure tubercles;
attachment scar edges raised, abutted near apex, narrowly gapped lower portion, flared gapped at base forming deep, triangular areole.

Stem hairs appressed and spreading; pedicel 2-3 mm long, elongating in fruit; pedicel and calyx densely white, silky-hairy, hairs appressed to ascending;
sepals 4.5-6.5 mm long in fruit; corolla limb (3)4-9 mm in diameter.
