Diagnostic features/
Caracteristicas de diagnstico
:
      Cryptantha crassisepala is distinctive in having ebracteate flowers, sepals with thickened midribs, and four, heteromorphic nutlets in which the odd/large (adaxial) nutlet is finely papillate and tuberculate-spinulose and the three consimilar nutlets are papillate and coarsely tuberculate, both types with an attachment scar wide from middle to base, often excavated.

In both results, Cryptantha crassisepala (var. elacantha) is sister to C. minima, these sister to a clade of C. kelseyana and C. fendleri.
