Etymology/Etimología:
"related, similar to", perhaps with reference to C. leiocarpa, as A. Gray (1885: 271) stated in the protologue (for the basionym Krynitzia affinis): "It has, with others, passed under the name Eritrichium leiocarpum [=Cryptantha leiocarpa] and in appearance is most like the original Krynitzkia" [=K. leiocarpa]

In all these results, Cryptantha affinis is part of a well-supported clade with C. clevelandii, C. corollata, C. decipiens, and C. aff. wigginsii [=C. catalinensis], these sister to C. microstachys.
