Etymology
From the Latin: occidentale, meaning of the west.
Description:
Plants nearly always less than 30 cm tall, solitary or branched from the base, branches upright to somewhat spreading; leaf blades 6-18 mm long, with rounded and often inconspicuous basal lobes, apices mostly obtuse, upper surfaces very sparsely farinose to glabrous and often appearing green; glomerules usually spaced in the inflorescence, axillary inflorescences mostly not well-developed; seeds (1.0) 1.05-1.20 mm diam. -Crawford
