Etymology
L. blitum, orach (Atriplex hortensis), from Gr. bliton, a leafy vegetable + spear-shaped with basal lobes facing outward, fr. L. hastatus, armed with a spear
Description:
Annual; calyx tube < lobes; flower clusters subtended by leafy bracts only in proximal 1/2 of inflorescence; stamens 3; fruit maturing from tip to base of plant; flower clusters 3–5 mm in diam; fruit red to green, not fleshy; leaf blade base tapered to truncate (hastate), margin entire or +/- toothed
