Etymology
L. blitum, orach (Atriplex hortensis), from Gr. bliton, a leafy vegetable + L. capitatus, forming a head, in ref. to the flower clusters
Description:
Annual; calyx tube < lobes; flower clusters subtended by leafy bracts only in proximal 1/2 of inflorescence; stamens 3; fruit maturing from tip to base of plant; flower clusters 6--10 mm in diam; fruit red, fleshy; leaf blade base truncate to cordate (hastate), margin generally sharply toothed
